The purpose of a writer - regardless of the kind of novel writing – must always be to drag the reader into his world, to engage fully in the plot and make him feel empathy for the characters.
Using clicks, by contrast, is thrown out of this world as the reader, reminding him that this is a fictional world. Because the cliché of the elements that are basically sound false. So annoying.
Nothing wrong if certain ways of speaking are part of our everyday language. Madly in love, butterflies in the stomach, icy eyes, heart of stone, pour down, sun splitting the rocks, silent as a fish, white Christmas … are words we hear and say often. But in the novels is a different matter: they must be avoided!
Be careful especially metaphors abused. Red as a pepper, mad as a hatter, white as milk, hot as hell … [click to continue...]
